Spanish and blues along beaches out to 50 ft. Kings moving into local 550-70 ft areas soon. Grouper season is now open, being caught in the 40-50 mile range.

Pogies have returned to our local beaches. This is a good sign, due to the possibility of cooling temps, and yellow butterflies, kings may soon be on the beaches. A few have been caught around local piers. Ocean Crest.and Apache are some examples.Reds are around local structures in the rivers. Trout can be caught around drop off areas around creek mouths. Come to Jimmy’s for all your fishing needs.

Bay Pirate Fishing team

Inshore bite

Trout and drum are biting around structure and drop offs. Fishermen are using white vudu shrimp and white /char gulp shrimp. Flounder are few in shore , but are thick at some of the nearshore reefs and ledges. Gulp shrimp on 2 0z jigs are working well.

Trout are still here. Early morning bite on top water mirrolures. Shrimp and artificials are the ticket once the sun has got up high. Check around docks and structure for flounder and drum. Larger flounder are being caught in deep water and around nearshore structure.

Kings and Spanish are being caught in 45-65 ft, with a few nice size mixed in.

Fishing in July

Summer is here. The flounder are moving to near shore reefs and around the inlets. Scattered Reds and Trout are being caught. Spanish are in the 30 to 50 ft depths. Kings are being caught at area locations in the 45 to 65 ft depth on spanish sardines, small ballyhoo, blues, diving plugs and pogies  and cigar minnows when they can be found.

Big Spanish and small kings are being caught in 45 to 65 ft of water in places like 990/90, Christinas, Shark hole and Jungle depths. Live bait is working good, when found. Some is on the right of the little river area.When running to your location look for pods of cigar minnows and use sibiki rigs to load up.Come by Jimmy’s and get local info and the latest rigs that are performing.

The king bite is on from 35 ft to 110 ft , with the larger fish coming from the deeper water. Live pogies, cigar minnows and blues being the baits of choice. Come on down and get your tackle and bait at Jimmy’s Marine and catch up on some local knowledge.  Cape Lookout Shootout had a great turnout with lots of locals placing in the top ten.

Bait

Pogies are here around area beaches. Along with the pogies are a lot of blues and some spanish. Word has it that  several cobia have been seen and caught around the pogie pods. Come on down and get in on the bite.

p.s.  New 300 Suzukis are on and it want be long before Bay Pirate is back at Sea.

mahi

Ran to the Winyad Wednesday and caught 4 nice size gaffer mahi. Seas were about 3 ft and we were able to run 35- 40 on the way out and @ 40 on the way in. Dolphin were caught on chuggers and  green machines look alikes by Tormentor lures. Come by for all your fishing needs and talk about the area bite.!!!!
