This three cylinder DOHC engine is designed with Suzuki’s Lean Burn Control System to deliver high tech performance with efficient operation and top level fuel economy. And as an added bonus, new DF50A engines also incorporate Suzuki Troll Mode System. During the 2011 Miami Boat Show, the Boating Writers of America presented Suzuki Marine with the NMMA Innovation Award for the DF50A/DF40A.

This is the only engine in the 40 hp class to offer DOHC performance, and also the only engine in its class to incorporate a maintenance-free, oil-bathed timing chain, which provides the outboard with increased durability and maintenance free operation. With larger displacements for increased power and performance, Suzuki’s Lean Control System for improved fuel economy and designs that are more compact and lighter in weight than the predecessor, the new DF40A engines also incorporate the Suzuki Troll Mode System. Suzuki’s DF175 is based on an inline four cylinder DOHC powerhead with a 2,867cm³ (174.9 cu.in.) displacement. While the large displacement contributes greatly to producing exceptional acceleration and torque, it doesn’t mean that they are comparatively larger and heavier in size. The water is then forced at high pressure through an outlet nozzle, creating thrust that drives the boat forward. To obtain reverse, a gate lifts into position over the outlet re-directing the pressure stream in the opposite direction.
  • The Big Tiller. – The optional center-mounted Big Tiller offers optimal control. A longer tiller grip incorporates a convenient power trim switch, the shift lever is close at hand, and an optional digital troll control adjusts engine speed as low as 700 rpm in 10-rpm increments.
